Shower Door of the Week: Rounded Operable Spray Panel in Annapolis, Maryland
New year, new shower door – check out the rounded corner on that spray panel! Technically, it’s a ’10” radius edge,’ if you want to sound like one of our experts. But whatever you call it, it’s pretty darn neat. From an interior design perspective, the rounded corner means the door is taking up less room. That makes the overall unit look bigger than it is. A solid solution to a small shower space.
The spray panel is operable, that is, it will swing out so you don’t have to shimmy yourself into the shower. The operable spray panel is hinged off the stationary panel with glass-to-glass hinges. Add in a square towel bar to match the squared shower head, and you’ve got yourself one cool little shower!

Shower Door of the Week: Smoked Glass in Martinsburg, West Virginia
These unique smoked glass showers caused a lot of excitement in the showroom this week! They were referred to as “The Blackout,” “glorious,” and “a bad mama jama.” Let’s take a look at the first shower…
Can we just bask for a minute in that dark grey glass against grey marbled tile? It’s stunning. Okay, the details. This corner unit has brushed nickel hardware, an obvious but excellent choice against the greys. It’s bright but in keeping with the minimalist frameless look. A smoked glass installation might be one time we wouldn’t recommend our beloved matte black hardware. We don’t want you fumbling around to find the shower door handle in the morning. But hey, if you want to go full goth black shower, we’re all in.
Light is one factor to consider with an acid-etched or smoked grey door. Again, we don’t judge. If you want a shower cave in the morning, you do you! If you want some extra light, though, consider installing lighting above or near the shower. A dimmer switch could also be a good investment if not everyone in the family loves the cave experience. Or…
Who needs a shower door? Wait, I haven’t run that concept by the marketing department. “Shower Not-Door Experts” doesn’t have the same oomph. But sometimes you don’t need the actual door. As Expert Schuyler notes, “These clients opted to go without a door on this bad mama jama.” With the lighting above and lack of door, it’s definitely a brighter experience overall. I also love all the textures they have going on – pebbles and marble with the grey tying it all together. Smoked glass is a trend I’d like to see a lot more of in 2022!
What do you think? Sooo hot? Too dark? Let us know over on Facebook and/or Instagram. We’ll also be posting some fun holiday content. You can follow along as Tom… I mean… Santa spreads showery joy around our service area. Hope your holiday season is off to a great start. Give us a shout if you’re thinking about kicking off 2022 with a hot mama jama of a shower door!
Shower Door(s) of the Week: Minimalist v. Cozy in Maryland
We couldn’t decide which of these custom showers to feature this week, so why not both? About the only thing they have in common is that they’re both in Maryland and keep water off the bathroom floor…
Spray Panel
In corner one we have a spray panel straight from Kensington, Maryland with clean minimalist lines. Expert Schuyler notes that it almost looks like a fancy hotel shower. The spray panel has just two wall clips and a channel along the bottom that secure the glass in place. The bench completes the almost industrial look. Does this design speak to you? Or are you more of a…
Panel-Door-Panel
In the other corner we have a cozy panel-door-panel from New Market, Maryland. The door hinges are glass-to-glass, placed at the very top and bottom of the door so the customers doesn’t get a face full of hinge first thing in the morning. And don’t let the pink and flowers fool you: this isn’t your grandma’s shower. (Or else it is, and your grandma is super hip!) Older showers might have a lot of metal around the edges. Also known as “framed,” in the biz. Frameless showers are more modern, stylish, and let in lots of light.
Also of note: the duel benches are a nice touch. It’s always handy to have space for your bottles and a spot to shave your legs. (This observation brought to you by Expert Emily.) Or just sit and ponder for awhile. You can see that the benches are angled so water doesn’t accumulate on them. This kind of design feature is why it’s so darn cool to get a custom shower door. You can design your dream shower, and we’ll make the glass work!
We’d love to hear your take on either or both of these shower designs! We’re always hanging out on Facebook and posting showers and fun pics on Instagram. (Send us a message in either place with the code SHOWERTHOUGHTS for a free rubber ducky!) Also waiting by the computer and phone to answer your questions or start a free quote.
Shower Door of the Week: Minimalist Panels in Frederick, Maryland
One of the major advantages of frameless glass versus a shower curtain is natural light. Our pick for best photo of the week illustrates this wonderfully! It’s especially important in the winter that we get as much sunlight we can. Natural light improves your mood and keeps you in a healthy circadian rhythm. And it’s just beautiful!
As our poll showed the other week, we’re seeing a solid trend in minimalist shower design. We might need to rethink the company name if doors go out of style! Kidding – they never will, but they certainly are optional for some layouts. We’re always happy to give feedback on how minimalist you’re able to go with your enclosure.
In other shower door news, we had a couple comments this week on our Facebook page about keeping glass clean. Love the glass look but worry about maintenance? Bottom line: new glass that’s been sealed is ridiculously easy to take care of. We offer glass sealant on all our doors, and then you only need a microfiber cloth to keep your door all sparkly clean! Here’s a full write-up on the process, and we include a maintenance card with every installation. And, as always, just give us a call if you have any questions, anytime.
