Year after year, we sell more door & panel units than any other type of shower door. There are a lot of simple 4’ and 5’ openings out there, and when customers want a swing door instead of sliding glass, this is their go-to option. These are sturdy, versatile, and affordable shower doors—all attractive qualities when remodeling your bathroom.

The major decision with door & panel units is the hinge location. The least expensive option is to hinge off of a tiled wall. However, we can also hinge off of the stationary glass panel without sacrificing stability, and sometimes the layout of the bathroom makes this necessary (e.g., to avoid a conflict with the toilet or vanity).

There are three hinge options with door & panel layouts:

Max width: 60″

Price range: $1500-1950 installed

Add glass sealant: $95-210

Add low-iron glass: $180-460

Max width: 54″

Price range: $1690-1950 installed

Add glass sealant: $95-160

Add low-iron glass: $180-350

Max width: 72″

Price range: $1520-2000 installed

Add glass sealant: $95-210

Add low-iron glass: $170-380

OPTION 1: HINGING OFF THE WALL

In most cases, we prefer to hinge doors off of a tiled wall. Hinging off of glass is a perfectly safe and stable alternative! But one gets a certain piece of mind from sinking 4 long screws per hinge into 2×4 backing behind the tile. Aside from this above and beyond stability, Door & Panel units with glass-to-wall hinges are typically less expensive than their glass-to-glass equivalents.
